City of Santee Rental Assistance

The Santee Rental Assistance Program will begin accepting applications on 10/17/22 at 8:00 AM and will continue until funding availability has exhausted.

The City of Santee Rental Assistance Program helps eligible Santee residents who have been directly impacted by a loss of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Assistance will be provided in the form of rental payments directly to landlords to help residents avoid eviction and prevent residents from becoming homeless.

Eligible applications will be reviewed and processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Santee Rental Assistance - Self Certification

Drop off the completed application and supporting documents to our office
located in the City of El Cajon, at 333 E. Main Street, El Cajon, CA 92020.

Paperwork that must be submitted with your application:

  • Completed application, along with Eligibility Verification, and Duplication of Benefits Self-Certification form.
  • Copy of ID
  • (2) Two most recent paystubs (household member names and address must match address on lease agreement).
  • Verification of income loss related to the pandemic of COVID-19: unemployment, furlough letter, paystubs to verify reduced hours or wage reduction, bank statements, profit & loss, business closure (temporary or permanent), medical documents.
  • Copy of current lease agreement with landlord’s contact information (oral lease agreements are not eligible for assistance).
  • Copy of past due or eviction notice (rent due must be itemized by month).

Which households are eligible (all must be true):

  • Total household income (all persons over 18 years old) within the past 30-days must be at or below 80 percent of AMI (“Low Income”).
  • Rental unit must be located within City of Santee (CITY) city limits.
  • Must have a written lease with verifiable address and adult tenants named.
  • Households experiencing loss of income directly related to COVID-19.
  • Must have document job loss, lay off, reduced hours or wage reduction.
  • COVID-19 positive, or caring for someone who is COVID-19 or,
  • Business closure (temporary or permanent) due to COVID-19.

Which Households are NOT Eligible:

  • Homeowner households,
  • Household receiving other government-based rental assistance (including tenant-based vouchers, Housing Choice Vouchers, Project Based Voucher projects),
  • Must not be facing current eviction proceedings for issues other than non-payment of rent from April 1, 2020, to the present,
  • Households residing in Public Housing.

Financial Assistance Provided:

  • One (1) to three (3) months of rental assistance within a consecutive six (6) month period.
  • Assistance can cover past due balance for rent beginning no earlier than April 1, 2020.
  • Up to $1,900 per month to cover past due rents from April 1, 2020, forward related to COVID-19.
  • Assistance will be capped at $5,675 per household
  • Payments will be made directly to landlord on behalf of household (with household verification).
