Home Start hosts two key fundraisers every year. Our fall fundraiser is called Hallo-Wine and has traditionally been held outdoors. Generous vendors gather to serve up tastings of wine and other beverages alongside delicious samples from local restaurant dishes.
While this has always been a fun, social event with people milling amongst a garden setting, this year that had to change. How could we continue the tradition while staying safe during a global pandemic? After all, the need for Home Start’s programs is greater than ever.
This annual event is an important contribution to our fundraising efforts.
In our last fiscal year we were able to provide life-changing services to 15,743 San Diegans.
These services include housing for young mothers, case-management services, trauma therapy, parental education, and facilitating access to fresh food, employment, and transportation. All of these strengthen families in need and provide a path toward a sustainable, positive future.
With our clients’ needs in mind, our team of staff, board members, and volunteers put their heads together to come up with a way to bring the fun of Hallo-Wine to you in a safe, yet still fun, manner.
This year, Hallo-Wine has been re-imagined with an exciting combination of virtual and hands-on enjoyment.
Tastings will be provided in a kit for you to pick up or have delivered within San Diego County. The box is packed with generous offerings from local wineries, breweries, distilleries, and restaurants. Pick up or have your package delivered the day before, then join the online festivities on October 24th as our experts guide us through the tastings.
Every kit provides tastings for two, so enjoy with your family or close friend in the safety of your back yard or kitchen table. Purchase more than one kit for a small gathering if you feel it’s safe to do so. Then, tune in online at 4:30 on October 24th for our virtual event.
Our interactive Zoom video call will include a variety of guests to discuss the contents of your tasting box. A Home Start client will also share her personal story of how your donations make a real life impact. And, you may even win prizes for playing in our trivia game.
