Planned Giving

Childrens Legacy

Your planned giving will change the lives of children that need it most and help secure them a bright future.

Home Start has established The Children’s Legacy to honor and recognize individuals who have named Home Start as a beneficiary of their financial legacy (will, estate plans, charitable gift annuities, or charitable trusts).

As a member of The Children’s Legacy, you join community members who have made a commitment to support a leading human services agency in San Diego County and share our vision of strengthening families and protecting children.

The planned giving funds that are donated to The Children’s Legacy are critical in stopping the cycle of child abuse and building strong families throughout San Diego

Estate Planning

You may wish to consider various estate planning arrangements such as charitable trusts and other gift vehicles. These arrangements allow you to make a gift to Home Start while still enjoying income from these gift instruments during your lifetime.

Ways to Give:

Will & Bequests – A gift to Home Start in your will allows you to retain your assets during your lifetime and/or the life of your spouse. Designations may be for a percentage of your estate or a specific amount.
Life Insurance – Transferring a life insurance policy’s ownership to Home Start can result in tax benefits for you and a generous gift for the families we serve. Home Start can also be included as a beneficiary of a policy.
Charitable Trust – A charitable trust can provide income for you and/or your spouse while you are living. Thereafter, Home Start can be named to receive the remainder of the assets. Other charities can be named as principal recipients as well.
Charitable Gift Annuity – A charitable gift annuity is a gift that gives back. It provides a way to make a gift to your favorite charity and still receive an income for yourself or others. By giving a lump sum (usually $10,000 or more) to The Children’s Legacy, you can receive an annual fixed percentage rate for return for life. It’s as easy as a bank CD, and it supports Home Start while providing a nice rate of return.

Meg Jacobs generous legacy gift funds Home Start's Thrift BoutiqueOur Home Start Thrift Boutique is a dream realized through a generous legacy gift from Margaret “Meg” Jacobs, who died of complications from breast cancer in 2012. Meg was a social worker who worked at Home Start early in her career. Through her planned giving, Home Start has touched the lives of so many more children and families in need of our support.
