Home Start is in the community working to prevent child abuse and strengthening families everyday–join us!
We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities for all ages and group sizes. Please review the opportunities below:
Family Self Sufficiency Volunteers
Individual and group volunteers are needed to sort, organize, and prepare clothing and household items for distribution to clients
Volunteers needed to set-up and help distribute food twice a month for 2 hours, location varies by month
Maternity Shelter Program
Mentorship program: provide friendship, education, and experiences to support young parents as they face their future
Community service projects
Meal and/or gift preparation and delivery
Special Event Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer at one of our special events including our annual Hallo-Wine Fall Festival in the fall or Blue Ribbon Gala in the spring. If you have a knack for special events, we need your help!
Support with administrative tasks around the office is needed on a daily basis. Tasks include data entry, telephone and clerical support, and reception coverage. Volunteers needed in multiple office locations.
Throughout the year Home Start has several internship positions open that enable those interested in fundraising, marketing, and even management an opportunity to become an integral part of a team and learn firsthand valuable skills. Internship opportunities are unpaid but can be completed for academic credit.
Thrift Boutique Volunteers
Volunteers are needed for various roles at our brand-new thrift boutique. Opportunities include sorting donated merchandise, working the sales floor, and working with management to create marketing and promotional material.
Interested in interacting with Home Start board members and staff to brainstorm ideas to continue successful outreach? Join one of our committees that meet once per month and contribute your time, talent, and creativity to a great cause.
Individual(s) needed to serve as an on-call driver to pick up and unload donations of food, clothing and household items in the San Diego area.
Individual(s) able to perform routine maintenance on program homes and refurbish or build furniture as needed at warehouse, thrift store, or houses. May complete some projects on site or at own home/facility
Tax Related Volunteers
Become a VITA volunteer and help low-income individuals and families file their tax returns. Volunteers will receive free training for State and Federal Tax Returns. Various volunteer sites throughout Central and East San Diego.
