How long have you been with Home Start?
As of the end of January 2023, 2.5 years (it will be 3 years in October 2023).
Tell us something personal about yourself, hobbies, favorite movie, pets or family, etc.
I am Portuguese, have three children, love to go to the gym, read and volunteer. My favorite movie is Rocky.
What initially brought you to Home Start?
I wanted to give back to my community and Rockette Ewell from Us Bank Community development connected me with Home Start.
What is your favorite thing about working with Home Start?
I love the annual toy drive that we have. I have volunteered since joining every year and the joy to see those little faces with joy. Meeting the parents that cant buy toys and sending them away with toys and knowing that they will have a great Christmas.
What do you believe is the most important aspect of Home Start?
Breaking the cycle of child abuse.
As a survivor of child abuse and domestic violence, I truly appreciate the programs and work that Home Start does. From education to the annual toy drive, to housing, Home Start aims to help families become more resilient by providing services that help lessen or remove stressors that lead to abuse.
What do you hope to accomplish in your work with Home Start?
Have 100% board participation attending meetings, volunteer events and also on the giving piece. Get more donors with regular donations. I am so proud to serve on a board that changes lives.
What would you tell others about Home Start that they might not know?
Home Start has been helping families for over 50 years. The best way to is to have people do a tour of what Home Start does and also tour the new 34th Street property to see what this amazing nonprofit does for children and parents.
