Last Thursday, November 4th, was one of this year's highlights for Home Start.
Accompanied by State Senate Pro Tempore Toni Atkins, SD City Councilmember Stephen Whitburn, and representatives from HomeAid San Diego and Prevost Construction, our CEO Laura Tancredi-Baese officially cut the ribbon for our brand-new Miracle on 34th Street Property! This site marks Home Start’s 5th multi-unit residential housing structure to serve San Diego’s most vulnerable pregnant/parenting young women and children.
The clouds cleared mid-morning, and by noon when the first guests arrived the sun was shining. The property was practically sparkling inside and out, as our partners toured each of the five completely renovated units.
To start the program, Past Home Start Board President Cameron Clarke welcomed everyone and introduced Laura. She shared the story of the property and the construction challenges exacerbated by the pandemic, then passionately urged everyone to continue working together to address the housing and wraparound services needed by young women and their children.
Next, State Senate Pro Tempore Toni Atkins and SD Councilmember Stephen Whitburn both shared powerful remarks and congratulated Laura and all those in attendance for seeing this project through to completion. The ceremony continued with special thanks and encouragement from Jamie Prevost of Prevost Construction and Stacy Reidinger of HomeAid San Diego and concluded with an official cutting of the ribbon.
Soon, five young women and children – survivors of domestic violence – will be able to move into beautiful and comfortable spaces of their own.
We are most grateful for the 65+ funding partners who helped us make this property a reality, for our partners at HomeAid San Diego and Prevost Construction, and for more than a dozen companies who donated time, talent, and materials to complete the project.
