The Birthplace of Jazz: New Orleans

Trying to put your finger on exactly when jazz was born simply can’t be done. We don’t know when, but we do know where: It happened in New Orleans - the Big Easy. In fact, jazz is happening right now. It is born, dies, and is reborn every day.

How did Jazz get its start?

The most likely explanation is some New Orleans cats took the music they heard at home, in church and in pubs, put it all together, and created a new sound. A wild, jubilant music. A music that makes you feel free and easy. A music that makes you feel alive. A music that makes you want to get up and dance.
