Stacey shares her story of gaining self-sufficiency in our Maternity Shelter Program, Gina describes how Home Start’s CalFresh program helped Maria put food on the table after a family tragedy, and Angela celebrates overcoming years of struggle to become the mom she wants to be for her three little boys. Meet Stacey:
“I came up through the foster system and exited the foster system after ten years. I bounced around from home to home and eventually I came into Home Start and they have been such a huge help for me. It’s really important that they were here to help me be a better mom for my son”
Hear Maria’s Story:
“The big reward is to see [Maria’s family] after they have been approved for the program, after they get the benefits and they come and tell me ‘Thank you so much for being flexible thank you so much for calling me so many times and reminding me to bring the documents in. Now that I am getting the benefits I have more time to study, I have more time to spend with my kids.’ It’s a program that is very life changing… CalFresh has helped a lot of families.”
Meet Angela:
“I’ve been CWS involved multiple times and it wasn’t until I heard of this program and utilized this program I was better able to shift my perspective and see things from [my children’s] side and just come to terms with accepting that. I don’t think that I would be where I’m at today if I didn’t have the services available through Home Start. The thing I’m most excited about when my kids come home is my house being full of their laughter again”
